Having a baby means a lot of new experiences and learning to do. You have to learn how to raise your baby the best way possible, how to choose the best diapers and baby gear and balance personal life with baby needs all at once.
You also need to know what you can expect from yourself and others like friends and families after the new baby arrives. This post will help you prepare for what’s ahead of you.
Feelings When You Have A Newborn Baby
Your feelings, your emotions are different after you give birth and you will be aware of this. Nothing will be the same again and neither will you. You have a whole new human to take care of – this requires a major adjustment period and may be overwhelming for your heart and mind. Post-partum depression is something to keep eye on.
Nobody Prepared You For This
You can read books and listen to other people experiences but nothing compares to when you actually have your baby. You may understand with your mind but going through all of it is another story. You can understand it will be exhausting but when you feel it then you really understand it. All of those advises on what to expect, how to notice that you are depressed or not be an overly obsessed new mom can’t really prepare you for the shocking intensity of your feeling after giving birth. It is overwhelming, especially if it is your first baby and no words can truly express a new mom’s feelings regarding this.
Your Feelings Are Normal
You are doing your best to be a good mom and the feeling of overwhelming, constant effort is completely normal. It is even normal to not feel like a good mom even if you are tearing yourself up to be one. It is normal to wish for some quiet time although you won’t be able to get it. Maybe you won’t even have time to shower! It is understandable that you may snap in some moments but you need to know that it is normal and it will pass.
Maybe you’ll be afraid of being a new mom or become a mom who is over obsessing every little thing. It is normal and you’ll have to fight your way through it.
It’s a bad idea to compare yourself to your mom and try do thongs her way. You have your mother instincts and you are a unique person and you’ll do just fine.
Just be aware that strong feelings will come and in those moments when you feel crushed don’t be ashamed to reach out for help.
Your Relationships Will Change – Let It Happen
All of your relationships will change in the light of having a newborn baby. You need to accept this fact and not force things to be like they were before.
First it will be the relationship with your husband. You will have less time to spend with him and your conversation topics will be mainly with the focus on the baby. Your baby will take the first place and some husbands feel a bit jealous about it. You both will have to go through adjustments but having a baby is such a blessing that it should not be a major problem. The baby will naturally preoccupy you both.
So you won’t be a couple anymore but a happy family of three so be patient, give it some time and things will adjust as they should be for a harmonious life.
Find People Who Understand To Talk To
Your family, and especially your mom or sister, will be a great support for you so don’t ignore this source of help. Other moms can also help a lot by sharing experiences and feelings. It will feel good to share thoughts and feelings with them because they are going through the same thing and can better understand you.
Having a small group of chosen people to be there for you when you need help is a smart idea. This way you have someone to turn to when things get rough or you have questions or you just need to vent out.
